The needle-holder after Mathieu is much lighter than the one after Hegar/Olsen. Due to its wedge-shaped profile, it is less suited for deep sutures, its benefit lies in the quicker, easier handling. With sutures that require much changing of hand-position (continuous seams, anastomosis, etc.), time-savings can be achieved with less effort.
