Cotton wool is basically a loose conglomeration of fibers or threads that create volume by adhering to each.
The most usable cotton wool consists primarily of cotton or viscose or other soft material made up of synthetic fibers like polyester. It serves primarily cosmetic purposes, protection of the ear canal or for wound care (surgical cotton wool).

UrgoCell Contact is the first wound dressing to emerge from the innovative technology TLC-Contact. The wound dressing consists of a super-absorbing polyurethane compress and a lipido-colloidal matrix (TLC-Contact), which is brought into contact with the wound. The micro-adhesive polymers in the regularly arranged TLC-Contact matrix from UrgoCell Contact offer a special advantage, because they ensure gentle adhesion in the wound area, without hindering the trauma- and pain-free changing of the bandage. The wound dressing can, due to the physical and chemical properties of the matrix, induce proliferation and mobilization of fibroblasts in the wound region.
These excellent properties ensure that UrgoCell Contact is a wound dressing suited for chronic and acutely exudating wounds. For the especially problematic heel region, UrgoCell Heel Contact also offers an application specifically adapted for this localization.
The effectiveness and compatibility of UrgoCell Contact was tested within the framework of a non-comparing, openly conducted Phase-III multi-center study in 17 testing centers, on patients with venous crural ulcers. After just 6 treatment weeks, the average ulcer area was reduced by 37,4 %, which, according to Dr. Michèle Sigal, Argenteuil (France), represents an excellent result and lasting evidence for the effectiveness of the new wound dressing. The compatibility was also very evident. The condition of the sensitive peri-lesional skin in the respective examined ulcer region was not adversely affected by application of the wound dressing.

This bandage consists 100% of cellulose.
It exhibits good layer cohesion and does a good job compressing the padding. It serves to pre-immobilize extremities and prevents water with dissolved plaster from soaking the padding. The bandage is easy to use, can be torn and can be used on highly contoured body parts. It also protoects against the cast saw during cast removal.

Grassolind neutral from HARTMANN
Grassolind Ointment-Compresses consist of a wide-meshed cotton webbing, impregnated with a non-active ingredient containing, skin-neutral ointment. They are therefore especially suited for wound treatment in dermatology, for skin-and medication-sensitive patients.
Grassolind Ointment-Compresses keep wound surfaces and edges supple in all phases of wound cleaning, and protect the wound from drying out. Formation of granulations and re-epithelialization are promoted, and troubling scar contractions are effectively prevented.
The ointment compress does not stick to the wound. Bandage changes are painless. The wide-meshed cotton webbing enables the entry of oxygen and ensures good ventilation. Secretions can drain unhindered, wet pockets are avoided.
Hydrocoll from HARTMANN
Hydrocoll is a self-adhesive, absorptive hydrocolloid bandage laminated to a semi-permeable yet germ- and waterproof polyurethane film. As the hydrocolloid particles soak up the wound secretions they swell and change into a gel that expands in the wound and keeps it moist. The gel keeps on absorbing until the hydrocolloids are saturated.

By using especially hydroactive colloids Hydrocoll has good absorptive capacity. Excess germ-laden secretions are rapidly taken up into the gel structure via the swelling process and safely sequestered. In the granulation phase, the moist wound environment below Hydrocoll stimulates the fibroblast activity, critical for tissue formation.
At the same time, the moist wound environment can be sustained without problem over longer treatment time spans without risking a secretion build-up, safely keeping the granulation from drying-out.
In der epithelialization phase, Hydrocoll, thanks to its wet wound environment, supports epithelial cell division and migration. In the absence of complications, Hydrocoll can remain on the wound for several days until teh epithelialization phase is finished.
Thanks to its gel layer, Hydrocoll does not stick to wounds. Dressing changes do not interfere with the growing tissues.
Hydrocoll has high, immediate adhesion properties, is highly flexible and therefore hugs contours and is easy to form on them. The flattened edges help with this, even in problematic zones.
The germ- and waterproof covering layer acts as a dependable germ barrier and protects the wound from dirt and moisture. Ambulatory patients can shower while wearing the bandage.
Ideal Bandage from HARTMANN
The classic Hartmann Ideal bandage accords with DIN 61632-IB-S as an elastic fabric bandage with short stretch for strong compression. Useful for many bandaging applications due to its good performance characteristics.

The bandage has 90% stretchability, resulting in tight bandaging with good pressure and massage effects.
Resists pressure while lying on it so that it is well-suited for all prophylactic and therapeutic uses with bedridden patients.
Consequent to the rapid decrease in the compression effect of elastic fabric bandages, wrapping with new bandages should be done daily. Washing will restore the elasticity in used bandages.
The Hartmann Ideal bandage is permeable to secretions and air, as well as washable and sterilizable with steam at 134 °C.
Lastotel from HARTMANN
Lastotel is a highly elastic fixation bandage with warp threads of crimped polyamide and weft threads of skin-friendly hydrophilic fibers. Lastotel is quickly and easily applied; complicated bandaging techniques are superfluous.

Lastotel is approx. 140 % stretchable and can also be used on conical body-parts or joints without enveloping turns.
Bandages with Lastotel don’t constrict and don’t hinder blood-circulation, nor desired mobility.
The bandage has a crepe-like surface structure, so that the individual bandaging turns adhere to each other without sliding. The bandages sit dependably and without sliding.
Lastotel is soft and air-permeable, and can be sterilized
(steam autoclave 134 °C).
Varying versions of Lastotel are available in bulk-packages of 100 bandages in a compact package, which doesn’t just offer economical, but also ecological benefits: the compact packaging saves on packing material, helps to avoid waste and reduces transport- and storage volume.
